Oahu: 10 Fun Things We Did

Oahu: 10 Fun Things We Did
Our friend Dave was generous enough to put us up in his place in Oahu and our friends Aaron and Laurie were generous enough to put up with us.  We had a lot of beach time, though not as much ocean time as we had expected on account of Leon telling us, very often, and after frequent inquires of Dad along the lines of “will you teach me how to swim?”, that in fact he was “not ready...

Memorial Day 2011: Doing Well by Doing Good

Memorial Day 2011: Doing Well by Doing Good
On Memorial Day weekend 2011, Marc asked us all to join him on a philantrohpic mission to Las Vegas.  Marc had a vision and a yearning for improving lives, most notably our own. Marc and Lou at a Strategy Session Marc took the large penthouse suite at the Hard Rock Hotel so that we could accommodate all the “at risk” souls.  The room included a number of activity centers, such as a wet...

New York 2010: Laura’s “Last Hurrah”

New York 2010: Laura's
Laura considered our  summer trip to New York our “last hurrah” before Pizante 2.0 drops, so we made the most of it.  We spent the better part our time in Brooklyn, revisiting old friends, old haunts and old vices. Thanks to the NYC crew for keeping the city fun — and a special shout out to Paul, Janet, Jake and Leo for letting us crash! Click on the video clip below for some highlights.  Read More →

Maui 2006: We All Converge

Maui 2006: We All Converge
A whole lot of us raided Maui on October 7-13, 2006 as guests of Pete and Jessica. We swam under waterfalls along the Road to Hana, watched the sunrise over Haleakala (Luis was just getting to bed as we got up), sailed two catamarans and swam in a turtle estuary, braved the waves and naked haole at Big Beach (Nisi broke her leg… again), traversed the lava flows to swim the “fish bowl”...

132nd Kentucky Derby: Barbaro Runs for the Roses

132nd Kentucky Derby: Barbaro Runs for the Roses
A winning trifecta? Another mint julep. Gee, thanks Kentucky Derby. You sure know how to show two ol’ carpetbaggers a swell time! In May 2006, Laura picked herself up a fantastically flowery hat, I ordered up a few jugs of top-shelf bourbon and we headed out—along with Mavent and good friends—to Louisville for the fastest two minutes in sports. Sure a horse race is at the heart of the...

Alaska: Land of the Midnight Sun

Alaska: Land of the Midnight Sun
In Summer 2002, Fiby and Sumner took Michael, Laura and I on an Alaskan cruise.  We departed from Vancouver and cruised the inside passage along the Alaskan Panhandle to Anchorage.  Before embarking, we spent a few days in Vancouver, including a Sunday in Stanley Park (above).  Stanley Park is a 1,000 acre park (10% larger than New York’s Central Park) opened in 1888 by David Oppenheimer...
